Deaf Events

The best way to learn ASL and Deaf culture is to jump right in and immerse yourself among native speakers (with the right attitude! :)

I strongly encourage ASL students to attend many local events to strengthen expressive and receptive skills.

Perhaps you feel intimidated, but I encourage you to change your perspective and start considering the mistakes you make are chances to grow and improve.  Attend these events with an open mind, a positive and humble attitude and follow the Deaf culture norms we have discussed in class.

Texas School for the Deaf Homecoming
Saturday, October 9
More details about time and price coming soon.  We know we'll meet early in the morning at Ben Barber and arrive late in the evening.  The cost should be minimal (enough for entrance ticket, which is usually between $3-$10 and food).

This will be a "no pass, no play" event.  Since it is school sponsored, students who have not passed all courses during the 1st six weeks will be ineligible to attend.
